Tattoos are celebrated all-over the world. They hold tradition and tell stories. In the entertainment industry, many of our favorite actors dawn some of the most impressive ones. Here are several famous actors and the meanings of their tattoos.
Transformation and Companionship
Tattooed women are sexy and actress Angelina Jolie does not disappoint. She has worked with refugees around the world and has “Know Your Rights” in gothic letters across the back of her neck. Human rights is a cause that is dear to her heart. One of her other prominent tattoos is the Buddhist inscription for Protection dedicated to her adopted son, Maddox. It is done in traditional Thai style and she had to kneel in prayer during the process due to certain rituals.
Drew Barrymore, actress and producer, also has a number of tattoos. They include a bouquet of flowers on the left part of her hip, a crescent moon, a black butterfly below the navel, a cross with vines near her lower right leg, and two angels on her lower back. Barrymore describes herself as being free as bird. That might explain the bird outline she has on her forearm.
Megan Fox loves poetry and has a few quotes displayed across her body. “We will all laugh at gilded butterflies” is tattooed on her upper right back and is quoted from Shakespeare done in Old. Near her rib cage is “And those who were seen dancing thought to be insane by those who could not hear music.” A lovely piece of prose she has on her left side, “There was once a little girl who never knew love until a boy broke her HEART.” She has other tattoos scattered all over her body.
The Latin actor, Danny Trejo, spent most of the 1960’s in and out of prison which is where most of his tattoos were done. The most prominent one is his large chest portrait of a women wearing a sombrero. It began in Folsomm prison and was finished in San Quentin two years later. He also added a red heart wrapped in barbed wire. The majority of his other tattoos are gang-related.
“My body is a my journal, and my tattoos are my story”, says Johnny Depp. He started with his arms with a Cherokee Indian Chief and above it is a “Wino Forever” banner in honor of his ex Winona Ryder. His mother’s name, Betty Sue, appears on his left arm wrapped in a heart which is tribute to “the greatest lady in the world.” Depp also has “Lily Rose”, the name of his first born daughter, tattooed above his heart. His son’s name, Jack, is tattooed on his arm similar to the one shown in Pirates of the Caribbean which he starred in.
